Recognizing the need to offer a lower cost alternative to their 100% German handmade instruments without sacrificing quality, Schimmel acquired a second piano factory in Poland just after the year 2000.

The result? Wilhelm Schimmel – a lineup of grands and uprights for those trying to get as close to a German piano as possible, without paying German prices.

There are three upright pianos in the Wilhelm Schimmel lineup, starting with the 45” W114. Don’t be fooled by this compact upright’s petite frame; this is a wonderfully designed, powerful upright piano offering excellent control, tuning stability, and versatility.

Handmade by highly experienced craftsmen in Poland before receiving final prep and regulation in Germany, the W114 is perfect for those who appreciate the finer things in life.

Action

Fully designed in Germany by Schimmel’s advanced R&D squad, the action used in the W114 is built in Poland, but then receives a full regulation back in Germany prior to shipping.

This is a precise action that’s much easier to control than many of the action’s found in other smaller upright pianos. If you’ve heard a piano teacher say an upright piano has to be at least 48” to be considered a “professional” instrument, you can rest assured they haven’t tried a W114 or any other smaller Schimmel upright, as the W114 easily outplays many 48” “professional” uprights.

Tone

Warm, vibrant and clear are but a few ways to describe the tone of the W114. Surprisingly powerful with great sustain for its size, the W114 will satisfy those seeking an instrument that isn’t just built in Europe, but sounds European too.

Hammers

One of the most remarkable things about the W114 is the hammers, as it uses the exact same hammers found in Schimmel’s classic series – beech core and double felted. These are high quality hammers that help the W114 stand out against its competition.

Soundboard

Schimmel only uses A class, Bavarian solid white spruce of the soundboards in the W114.
