Most of the new pianos purchased today are mass-produced
and while these technological processes have kept dependable, if unspectacular
pianos at affordable prices, something of course is lost, and this includes
the quality and of the cabinetwork.
Not only are unique woods rare and expensive, it would be
out of the question in terms of cost today to have a highly skilled craft
person meticulously matching woods and performing hand carving.
Many older pianos have irreplaceable cabinetwork, which
can make them much more attractive instrument for restoration.
