We are often asked by our clients our opinion of digital pianos as opposed to a traditional acoustic piano. In the past 14 years we've sold digital pianos, we have learned each client must reach their own conclusions about which instrument is right for them. Here are a few questions that will help you in your research.

  • Who is the piano for?
  • Has the person played the piano before?
  • Would the player be more comfortable practicing if no one else could hear?
  • What budget are we trying to meet?

  • Are you concerned about the costs of maintaining a piano?
  • What type of music is going to be played?
  • Is portability a factor?
  • Might the musician benefit from a wide selection of sounds?
  • Do you own a computer?

A typical example might be that the piano is for the youngster who is just starting lessons. You're not aware what type of music they might be playing, but they'll probably begin learning traditionally and you want to hear their music to make sure they are practicing. You're also concerned that this sudden piano interest may be a passing fancy and you want to protect your investment.

If your situation is similar, you might prefer to start with an acoustic piano because of our 3-year buy back policy, and possibly move to a digital piano in the future when your family might enjoy it's flexibility. If however, the piano is for someone who would benefit from some extra fun and motivation, then a digital piano may be the best solution.

Digital pianos have many advantages including headphones, portability, expandability and computer hook-up.  They are "sampled" from a 9' concert grand piano, and often sound better that a similarly priced traditional piano. Roland digital pianos not only emulate the touch and tone of an acoustic piano, but they never need tuning or other regular maintenance. (Over a ten-year period, this can amount to thousands of dollars). Our staff will make you confident about your decision with courteous service and knowledgeable follow-up support.

Roland HP and KR-series Digital and Intelligent Pianos bring the traditional quality and prestige of the world's finest acoustic pianos into the 21st century. These amazing (and amazingly affordable!) instruments provide uncompromised sound quality and expressiveness, plus the ability to "interface" with modern multimedia components such as music synthesizers and personal computers. In addition, Roland's KR series combine professional-quality sounds and amplification with a complete backing band, and Karaoke, all in one easy-to-use package. Some of them have built-in notation or even "adjudicators" to test your improvement as you practice.
